About
Decamethonium Bromide is a cosmetic ingredient. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Decamethonium bromide is a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent (nmBA) used historically in surgical anesthesia. It acts by competitive blockade of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors at the motor endplate, causing muscle paralysis. The neuromuscular blocking action makes this substance completely inappropriate for cosmetic use. Any systemic absorption through skin could lead to serious adverse effects including respiratory paralysis.
Known concerns
- Neuromuscular blocking agent
- Muscle paralysis risk
- No cosmetic authorization
- Respiratory toxicity potential
