About
Decyl isostearate — a light, dry-touch emollient ester with a well-established cosmetic safety record.
Decyl isostearate (CAS 84605-08-3) is the ester of decyl alcohol and isostearic acid, widely used as a lightweight, dry-touch emollient and pigment-wetting agent in makeup and skincare. The CIR Expert Panel has assessed simple alkyl isostearate esters as a class and found them safe as used in cosmetics. Skin irritation is minimal, sensitization is rare, and stability is excellent. Some formulators consider it mildly comedogenic at very high loadings; at typical cosmetic percentages (often 1-10%) this is rarely an issue.
