Diazomethane (CH2N2) is a highly toxic and explosive yellow gas used primarily as a methylating agent in organic synthesis. EU CLP classification includes H350 (known carcinogen), H220 (extremely flammable gas), H315/H317 (irritation/sensitization), H318 (serious eye damage), H334 (respiratory sensitizer), and H370/H371 (organ toxicity). It is listed in EU Annex II of the Cosmetics Regulation, prohibiting its use in cosmetic products. The substance is also listed as a SVHC under REACH due to its carcinogenic and mutagenic properties.
