About
DIBUTYLDIHYDROFURANONE is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulation. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Dibutyldihydrofuranone is a gamma-lactone with two butyl substituents, chemically described as 5,5-dibutyloxolan-2-one or gamma,gamma-dibutyl-gamma-butyrolactone. The two butyl groups significantly increase the lipophilicity and molecular weight compared to simple lactones, reducing volatility and modifying the odor profile towards more substantive, creamy fruity notes. Not specifically restricted under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 Annex II or III. The chemical stability of the lactone ring against ring-opening under cosmetic formulation conditions is favorable. Available toxicology data supports safe use at fragrance use levels.
