Dienestrol is a synthetic estrogen closely related to diethylstilbestrol (DES), classified as an endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC) and reproductive toxicant. It is not listed on EU cosmetic Annexes as it is obviously excluded by hazard classification. Cosmetic products containing estrogenic compounds are prohibited under EU cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009. The potency of this compound as an endocrine disruptor warrants the most stringent safety concern.
