About
An industrial tertiary amine — corrosive, nitrosamine-prone, and not appropriate as a free-base cosmetic ingredient.
Diethyl Ethanolamine (CAS 100-37-8, DEEA) is a tertiary ethanolamine used as an industrial corrosion inhibitor, rubber catalyst, and chemical intermediate. Cosmetic use is marginal at best; the free base is GHS Category 3 acutely toxic by inhalation, causes severe skin and eye burns (Category 1), and is flammable. Like other alkanolamines in this class it can participate in N-nitroso compound formation under nitrosating conditions, producing suspected carcinogens. EU cosmetic regulation restricts DEA and related amines in finished cosmetics and requires nitrosation control. Prior listing as a benign cosmetic ingredient was incorrect.

Known concerns
- Corrosive to skin and eyes
