About
Japanese mountain yam root powder used in traditional beauty rituals.
Dioscorea japonica is a wild yam species used as food and in traditional medicine in Japan. It contains diosgenin-type steroidal saponins, mucilage (mannans), and vitamin C. Like other food-grade yam species, it is not restricted under EU cosmetic regulation. The mucilaginous polysaccharides provide excellent humectant and skin-conditioning properties. No significant safety concerns have been identified in the available literature for cosmetic use.
Skin benefits
- Mucilaginous polysaccharides provide long-lasting skin moisturisation
