About
Date-plum leaf extract rich in flavonoids like myricitrin and gallic acid. Shown in animal studies to protect against UVB damage and reduce itch.
Diospyros lotus leaf extract is obtained from the date-plum tree (Ebenaceae family). Phytochemistry identifies flavonoids including myricitrin, myricetin-3-O-galactoside, astragalin, gallic acid and myricetin as main actives, conferring antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. A 2017 study (PubMed 28850926) reported that topical application reversed UVB-induced skin damage in BALB/c mice with effects comparable to l-ascorbic acid, and a 2023 paper (PMC10280317) demonstrated anti-pruritic activity via astrocyte modulation. Regulatory status: permitted in cosmetic products under standard botanical-extract rules. Human clinical safety data remains limited, and as with most botanicals, individuals with plant allergies should patch-test. Used as an antioxidant, skin conditioner and emollient support agent.
