About
A potassium salt of a bryonolic-acid succinate ester from Bryonia (Cucurbitaceae plants). Marketed for skin soothing; data is limited.
Dipotassium bryonolyl succinate is the dipotassium salt of bryonolic acid (a pentacyclic triterpene found in Bryonia and other Cucurbitaceae) esterified with succinic acid. The succinate/potassium modifications make a water-dispersible active marketed for anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing claims. Bryonolic acid has shown anti-inflammatory activity in pre-clinical studies. Important caveat: raw Bryonia plants contain bitter cucurbitacin compounds known to cause skin/mucosal irritation, so supplier purification of bryonolic acid from cucurbitacins is critical. There is no CIR or SCCS-specific review; safety data are mostly proprietary.
