Direct Blue 86 (CI 26100) is an azo dye listed as a prohibited substance in EU Annex II (reference II/1368) of Regulation 1223/2009. The prohibition applies to its use as a hair dye or any other cosmetic colorant. Azo dyes can reductively cleave to release aromatic amines, some of which are known or suspected carcinogens.
