Coal tar pitch pyrene fraction is a distillation cut of coal tar pitch enriched in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons including pyrene, fluoranthene, and benzo[a]pyrene. These compounds are IARC Group 1 or 2A carcinogens with demonstrated skin absorption. The substance is prohibited in cosmetic products under EU Regulation 1223/2009 Annex II due to its PAH content and carcinogenic classification.
