Hydrodesulfurized middle petroleum distillates consist of complex hydrocarbon mixtures that may contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), some of which are carcinogenic. Under EU REACH Annex XVII, restrictions apply to PAH content in consumer products. Such petroleum distillates are not permitted as cosmetic ingredients and fall under general market restrictions for substances at ≥0.1%.
