About
A cosmetic ingredient. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Hydrodesulfurized heavy catalytic cracked petroleum distillates undergo catalytic hydrotreating to reduce sulfur, nitrogen, and metal content. However, this process does not eliminate all aromatic compounds, and PAH residues may remain. EU Annex III restricts these streams at ≥0.1% in cosmetic products. The hydrodesulfurization process primarily addresses environmental and odor concerns but the base hydrocarbon composition, including residual PAHs, remains subject to restriction.
Known concerns
- Residual PAH content
- Complex hydrocarbon mixture
- Environmental hazard
- Restricted ≥0.1% in EU cosmetics
