About
A cosmetic ingredient. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
This petroleum stream is listed in Annex II of EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. Although hydrodesulfurization reduces sulfur content, the catalytic cracking process can still generate polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) compounds. The mixture composition varies by source refinery and process conditions. Several PAHs present in such streams are classified as known or suspected carcinogens under CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
Known concerns
- Prohibited in EU cosmetics (Annex II)
- Contains polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons
- Potential carcinogenicity from process-generated PAHs
- Variable composition by refinery source
