About
Distillates (petroleum), Light Hydrocracked is a cosmetic ingredient. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Light hydrocracked petroleum distillates are produced by catalytic hydrogenation at high pressure, which reduces unsaturation and removes heteroatoms compared to steam cracking. However, these streams may still contain residual aromatic compounds including some PAHs. EU Annex III restricts light hydrocracked petroleum distillates at ≥0.1% in cosmetic products. Hydrodesulfurization reduces sulfur content but does not eliminate all potentially hazardous aromatic structures.
Known concerns
- Residual aromatic content
- Some PAH constituents possible
- Environmental hazard
- Restricted ≥0.1% in EU cosmetics
