A lightweight, dry-feeling synthetic ester made from 2-ethylhexanol and pivalic acid, providing elegant texture in skincare formulations.
Ethylhexyl Neopentanoate is the ester of 2-ethylhexanol (a branched C8 alcohol) with pivalic acid (a branched C5 acid). The branched structure prevents close packing in the solid or liquid state, giving the ester a very low viscosity and dry, non-greasy skin feel. Functions as an emollient, skin-conditioning agent, and plasticizer in cosmetic formulations. It is an alternative to heavier straight-chain esters. 2-Ethylhexanol exposure is regulated but the ester form is considered safe in cosmetics at typical use levels. Not restricted in EU or US.
