About
Fenfluramine hydrochloride [USAN] is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Its specific function may vary between products. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Fenfluramine hydrochloride is the salt form of fenfluramine, retaining all pharmacological activity and toxicity. It carries acute toxicity classifications H300/H301/H302 (toxic if swallowed). Fenfluramine and its salts were withdrawn from all markets due to cardiotoxicity (valvulopathy) and pulmonary hypertension. As with the parent compound, this substance is prohibited in cosmetic products under EU Cosmetics Regulation Annex II as a CMR substance. The pharmaceutical heritage of this ingredient makes it categorically unsuitable for cosmetic applications.
Known concerns
- Acute oral toxicity (H300, H301, H302)
- Cardiovascular toxicity - valvular heart disease
- Pulmonary arterial hypertension
- CMR substance - EU Annex II banned
- Pharmaceutical agent with no cosmetic use
