About
Licorice root juice — a classical soothing and skin-brightening botanical, rich in glycyrrhizin and licochalcones. Well-studied in cosmetics.
Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root juice is a liquid extract of licorice root. It contains glycyrrhizin, glabridin, licochalcones, and liquiritin — compounds with well-documented anti-inflammatory, soothing, and tyrosinase-inhibiting (skin-brightening) effects in published cosmetic and dermatological literature. CIR has reviewed licorice-derived ingredients and considered them safe as used in cosmetics. EU CosIng lists it without restriction; no GHS hazard class applies at cosmetic concentrations. Oral licorice at high doses causes pseudo-aldosteronism via glycyrrhizin, but this is not a topical cosmetic concern.
