About
Licorice root — one of the best-studied botanicals for soothing redness and softening dark marks. Evidence-backed and widely trusted.
Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root is rich in glycyrrhizin, glabridin, licochalcone A, and liquiritin, each with documented anti-inflammatory and/or tyrosinase-modulating activity. In cosmetics it is used as a skin conditioning, soothing, and brightening agent, with a substantial dermatology literature (e.g. licochalcone-based formulations in rosacea-prone skin, glabridin for hyperpigmentation). EU CosIng lists it without restriction; CIR has reviewed Glycyrrhiza glabra-derived ingredients and found them safe. Oral-pharmacology cautions about blood pressure/potassium do not apply at cosmetic topical doses.
