About
Heptyl butyrate — a fruity-pineapple fragrance ester, widely used and well tolerated at perfumery levels.
Heptyl butyrate (CAS 5870-93-9) is a simple fatty ester with a characteristic fruity — pineapple/apricot — fragrance note. It has long been used in perfumery and in flavoring (also GRAS in food under FEMA). At typical fragrance-use concentrations it is well tolerated on skin; RIFM/IFRA cover its dermal safety profile. As a simple short-chain ester it has a low allergenic profile compared with many terpene fragrance materials. General fragrance-use caveats around total fragrance exposure apply.
