About
A synthetic hydrocarbon that acts as an emollient — gives products a light, silky texture and helps skin retain moisture.
Hexadecene (CAS 26952-14-7, C₁₆H₃₂) is an unsaturated C16 hydrocarbon (1-hexadecene) used as an emollient and skin conditioning agent in cosmetic formulations. It provides a lightweight, non-greasy feel similar to natural oils but with improved stability. Often used in combination with other hydrocarbons as a replacement for silicones or mineral oil. Hexadecene has low toxicity, minimal irritation potential, and is not a sensitizer. It is chemically inert and unlikely to react with skin components. No significant safety concerns at typical cosmetic use concentrations.
