About
HEXAHYDRO-BENZOFURANONE is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulation. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Hexahydro-benzofuranone (also known as gamma-hexalactone or 5-hexyloxolan-2-one) is a saturated gamma-lactone with a warm, coconut-like, peach-like odor profile. Gamma-lactones are widely distributed in nature and have a long history of safe use in both food and cosmetics as flavor and fragrance ingredients. The saturated furanone ring is chemically stable and not prone to oxidation or sensitization reactions. Under EU Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009, the compound is not listed in Annex II (banned) or Annex III (restricted). IFRA and FEMA GRAS status confirm safety at normal use levels.
