About
Saturated (hydrogenated) pork fat glycerides that are more stable than their unsaturated counterparts and function as solid-state emollients in cosmetics.
Hydrogenated Lard Glycerides are the fully saturated form of lard glycerides, providing greater oxidative stability compared to unsaturated lard. They function as consistency factors and emollients in cosmetic formulations, particularly in stick products, balms, and anhydrous systems. The hydrogenation process eliminates concerns about rancidity and double-bond oxidation products. Under EU Regulation 1223/2009, hydrogenated vegetable and animal fats are permitted cosmetic ingredients.
Skin benefits
- Highly stable emollient with long shelf life
- Provides body and consistency to formulations
- Good occlusive properties for moisture barrier support
Known concerns
- Very high saturation may reduce skin-lubricating feel compared to unsaturated fats
- Same animal-origin considerations as non-hydrogenated lard
