About
A cosmetic ingredient. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Hydrogenated starch hydrolysate is a hydrogenated glucose polymer (maltitol-type saccharides) further reacted to a quaternary ammonium salt. The modification imparts positive charge for improved substantivity to skin and hair. Not subject to specific EU cosmetic restrictions under Regulation 1223/2009. The reaction with 2,3-epoxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride (CAS 3033-77-0) is the same intermediate used in the other trehalose derivatives; residual epichlorohydrin-type impurities are the primary quality concern.
Skin benefits
- Film-forming humectant action
- Improves skin texture
