About
A reactive silicone resin used to build long-wearing silicone films in makeup and sunscreens. Inert once cured.
Hydrogendimethylsiloxysilicate (CAS 68988-57-8) is a methyl-silicate / methyl-hydrogen silicone resin bearing reactive Si–H groups. In formulation it can hydrosilylate with vinyl-silicones to build crosslinked elastomer films delivering long-wear and water resistance. Handling the raw material requires care — contact with moisture, strong base or certain catalysts can liberate hydrogen gas — but once cured in finished products the polymer is inert, with the standard silicone safety profile (CIR-safe for silicone film formers). Not listed on EU Annex II/III. Environmental persistence is typical silicone concern.
