About
A tree-nut-derived hydrolyzed protein used to condition hair and skin. Good performance on hair but carries a tree-nut-allergen flag.
Hydrolyzed Brazil nut protein is enzymatically digested seed protein from Bertholletia excelsa. Molecular weight is typically 1-10 kDa, allowing substantive binding to hair keratin. Brazil nut contains the well-characterised 2S albumin storage protein (Ber e 1), one of the more potent tree-nut allergens; cases of hair-product-triggered reactions in nut-allergic individuals exist in the dermatology literature. Ingredient-level safety is otherwise favourable. EU and US labelling rules require identification of the nut source.
