About
A conditioning polymer derived from gelatin that carries a positive charge to bind to negatively charged hair and skin proteins, providing smooth film-forming benefits.
Hydroxypropyltrimonium Gelatin is a cationic gelatin derivative in which the natural protein has been modified with hydroxypropyl and trimethylammonio groups via an ether linkage to 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium. The quaternary ammonium group imparts a permanent positive charge, enabling substantive binding to negatively charged keratin in skin and hair. This is a well-established cosmetic ingredient class used in hair conditioners, skin lotions, and barrier products. It is not listed in EU Annex II or III and is considered one of the safest and most substantiated protein-based conditioning polymers available.
Skin benefits
- Film-forming protective barrier on skin and hair
- Improves hair combability and reduces static
