It occurs naturally in many fruits and is widely used in both food and cosmetic fragrances for its characteristic banana-pineapple-fruity odor. The compound is not restricted under EU cosmetic regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 Annexes II or III) and is considered to have a favorable safety profile with low acute toxicity. IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards apply for cosmetic fragrance use. The compound is readily biodegradable.
