About

Fruity, herbal fragrance ester with a sweet, slightly woody scent.

Isobutyl isovalerate (2-methylpropyl 3-methylbutanoate) is the ester of isobutanol (2-methyl-1-propanol) and isovaleric acid (3-methylbutanoic acid). It is characterized by a pleasant fruity, apple-like aroma and is used both as a fragrance and flavoring agent. The compound is not restricted under EU cosmetic regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 Annexes II or III). It has a favorable toxicity profile with low acute oral and dermal toxicity. IFRA guidelines apply for fragrance use, and the compound is considered safe at typical fragrance use levels in cosmetic products.
