About
A branched-chain ester (isocetyl alcohol + isostearic acid) used as a light, silky emollient. Well-tolerated and a workhorse in makeup and lotions.
Isocetyl isostearate (CAS 52006-45-8) is a branched-chain ester combining a 16-carbon iso-alcohol with an 18-carbon iso-fatty acid. The branching gives it a light, dry-feel slip distinct from straight-chain esters, making it popular in color cosmetics, sunscreens, and lightweight lotions. CIR has reviewed alkyl isostearate esters extensively and considers them safe as used in cosmetics. Non-comedogenic at typical use levels (1-15%), low irritation, no sensitization signals in standard testing.
