Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A woody, amber sesquiterpene ketone derived from longifolene. Used as a fragrance fixative; well-tolerated but public toxicology is modest.
Isolongifolanone (CAS 23787-90-8) is a sesquiterpene ketone obtained from the tricyclic sesquiterpene longifolene (found in pine resin). It is used in perfumery for its woody-amber, fixative properties. It has also been investigated as a DEET alternative insect repellent. Safety assessment in cosmetic contexts relies largely on RIFM/IFRA industry reviews; public SCCS/CIR monographs are limited. Sesquiterpenes as a class are prone to autoxidation, which can generate more reactive hydroperoxide and epoxide species. Default-yellow (70) reflects an acceptable use profile with routine caveats about sesquiterpene oxidation.
