About
A lactate ester emollient — branched isostearyl alcohol joined to lactic acid. Smooth, non-greasy slip with strong pigment-wetting performance.
Isostearyl lactate (CAS 42131-28-2) is the lactic acid ester of isostearyl alcohol. It functions as an emollient and skin-conditioning agent, used at 1-10% in lipsticks, foundations, and creams for its silky, low-tack feel and excellent pigment dispersion. CIR has reviewed alkyl lactate esters and concluded they are safe as used. Not a sensitizer in standard human patch tests; not classified as a CMR substance under EU CLP. A mild comedogenic score is reported but is concentration-dependent.
