About
A probiotic-fermented licorice root extract. The lactobacillus fermentation produces peptides, polysaccharides and organic acids that help soothe and condition skin.
Lactobacillus/Licorice Root Extract Ferment Filtrate is produced by fermenting Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root with Lactobacillus bacteria and filtering the resulting broth. The final ingredient is not live bacteria but a mixture of enzymes, peptides, teichoic acids, polysaccharides, organic acids and cell-wall fragments alongside licorice-derived actives such as glycyrrhizin and liquiritin. CIR has reviewed the broader Lactobacillus ferment family and generally considers these ingredients safe as used in cosmetics (Safety Assessment of Lactobacillus Ferment Ingredients, cir-safety.org). Function is primarily skin conditioning with some antioxidant activity. Risk of allergic reaction exists for individuals sensitized to licorice; batch-to-batch variability is typical for ferments.
