A lanolin-derived emulsifier and skin conditioner made by ethoxylating lanolin and then acetylating the product, combining the rich conditioning of lanolin with improved water solubility.
Laneth-10 Acetate is the acetate ester of laneth-10 (ethoxylated lanolin with ~10 moles EO), making it a modified lanolin derivative with both hydrophilic (PEG chain + acetate) and lipophilic (lanolosterol/cholesterol-like fractions) character. Lanolin itself is a complex mixture of wax esters, sterols, and fatty acids from sheep wool, renowned for its skin-conditioning and barrier-repair properties. Ethoxylation improves water solubility, and acetylation reduces the already-low lanolin allergenicity. However, lanolin and its derivatives can occasionally cause allergic contact dermatitis in individuals sensitized to lanolin alcohols.
Skin benefits
- Rich skin-conditioning — emollient and moisturizer
- Supports skin barrier repair
- Softens and smooths skin texture
- Reduces transepidermal water loss
Known concerns
- Lanolin allergy — contact dermatitis in sensitized individuals
- Animal-derived ingredient — not suitable for vegans
- Very rare contamination with pesticides from sheep farming
