About
LAUROCAPRAM is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulation. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Laurocapram (also known as Azone) is a well-known pharmaceutical penetration enhancer used to increase drug flux across skin. While effective at disrupting the stratum corneum lipid matrix, this same mechanism raises concern for cosmetic use, as chronic disruption of the skin barrier may lead to irritation, sensitization, and increased systemic absorption of other formulation ingredients.
Skin benefits
- Potent penetration enhancer that can increase delivery of actives into skin
Known concerns
- Disrupts stratum corneum lipid barrier structure
- Limited long-term safety data for repeated cosmetic use
- May increase absorption of unwanted cosmetic or environmental chemicals
