About
A methacrylate monomer used in cosmetic polymer synthesis that requires careful handling due to its skin sensitization potential.
Lauryl Methacrylate (CAS 142-90-5) is an acrylic monomer used in the manufacture of polymeric ingredients for cosmetics, such as film-forming polymers andrant-based polymers. Acrylates and methacrylates are known skin sensitizers and should be handled carefully during manufacturing. Residual monomer levels in finished cosmetic products must be kept extremely low. Not specifically restricted in EU Annex III for cosmetics. PubChem CID: 8906.
Skin benefits
- Enables creation of film-forming polymers for long-wear cosmetics
- Used in stable polymer dispersions
Known concerns
- Known skin sensitizer requiring careful handling during manufacturing
- Residual monomer must be minimized in finished products
- May cause allergic reactions in sensitized individuals
