About
An amphoteric surfactant (betaine type) derived from lauryl alcohol, used in cleansers and shampoos for its mild foaming and skin-conditioning properties.
Lauryl sultaine is a betaine-class amphoteric surfactant providing good foaming performance with low irritation potential, making it suitable for sensitive-skin cleanser formulations. It is not subject to EU cosmetic restrictions and is considered one of the milder surfactants available for cosmetic use. Like all surfactants, it can disrupt the skin barrier at high concentrations or with prolonged contact, but is well-tolerated in rinse-off products at normal use levels.
Skin benefits
- Mild amphoteric surfactant for gentle cleansing
- Good foaming performance with low irritation potential
- Suitable for sensitive-skin formulations
Known concerns
