About
Ground henna twigs — a milder fraction of Lawsonia inermis than the leaf. Lawsone content still triggers some sensitization and regulatory caveats.
Lawsonia inermis twig powder is the milled woody twig of the henna plant. It contains lower concentrations of lawsone (2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone) — the primary pigment and mild sensitizer — than the leaf but still some. SCCS has reviewed lawsone and set use limits for hair dyeing; pure lawsone is a restricted substance in EU cosmetics but natural henna plant parts containing it are permitted at regulated levels. Twig powder is also used as a mild physical exfoliant and as a natural colorant. Some users develop contact sensitization to lawsone. Score sits mid Fine tier — traditional use, but lawsone-related regulatory caveats lower it from the upper band.
