About
Lead chromate — contains lead and hexavalent chromium, both Group 1 carcinogens. Absolutely banned in cosmetics.
Lead chromate (PbCrO4, CAS 7758-97-6) is an intensely coloured yellow inorganic pigment (chrome yellow) containing two Group 1 human carcinogens: lead and hexavalent chromium. EU CLP harmonised classification includes Carc. 1B, Repr. 1A (H360Df — may damage the unborn child, suspected of damaging fertility), and STOT RE 2. It is a REACH Authorisation-list substance (SVHC) on multiple grounds. EU Cosmetics Regulation Annex II entry 289 prohibits lead and its compounds, and hexavalent chromium compounds are separately prohibited. No legitimate cosmetic use exists. Listing reflects the Cosmetics Regulation automatic prohibition of CMR 1A/1B substances, not formulation intent.
