About
The sap of loofah plant stems — a traditional Japanese and Chinese skin-conditioning water. Gentle and minerally; evidence base is mostly ethnobotanical.
Luffa cylindrica stem sap (sometimes called hechima water) is the aqueous sap collected from the stems of the loofah plant — a traditional Japanese skincare ingredient (hechima sui). It contains small amounts of organic acids, amino acids, and polysaccharides. In cosmetics it functions as a skin-conditioning and aqueous-phase ingredient. There is no CIR monograph and cosmetic-specific toxicology is limited; safety is inferred from long traditional use. Not restricted under EU CosIng. Cucurbitaceae-family contact sensitisation is rare but documented.
