LYSOZYME BETA-GLUCAN
Safety score · 0–100
Fine
Derived from EU CosIng regulatory status, PubChem hazard data and published research. How we score.
A hybrid ingredient: lysozyme (a natural antibacterial enzyme, typically from egg white) complexed with yeast beta-glucan. Soothing and barrier-supportive.
Lysozyme beta-glucan couples lysozyme, a 14 kDa muramidase enzyme most commonly sourced from hen egg white, with yeast-cell-wall beta-glucan polysaccharide. The pairing is marketed for skin-barrier support and microbiome balance. Lysozyme itself is an established food allergen and occasional contact sensitizer in occupationally exposed individuals; at cosmetic concentrations in leave-on skincare, sensitization is uncommon but not theoretical. Beta-glucan has a favourable CIR profile. No formal regulatory restriction; vegan-inappropriate if egg-sourced.
