A nutmeg-derived lignan studied for brightening and antioxidant effects. Promising but cosmetic data is thin.
Macelignan (CAS 107534-93-0) is a lignan isolated from Myristica fragrans (nutmeg). In vitro it shows antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase and anti-inflammatory activity, with some interest as a natural skin-brightening actives ingredient. No CIR monograph exists and it is not individually listed in EU CosIng with restrictions. Human dermal safety data is limited; typical cosmetic inclusion is low (0.01-0.1%). Like many bioactive phytochemicals, tolerability depends on purity and vehicle.
