About
Magnesium Laureth-5 Sulfate is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Magnesium Laureth-5 Sulfate is the magnesium salt of the polyethylene glycol-5 lauryl ether sulfate. Magnesium salts of alkyl ether sulfates are known to be significantly milder on skin and hair than sodium salts (e.g., SLES). The laureth-5 chain (5 EO units) further reduces irritation potential. It is not listed on EU Annex II or III of Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009. However, as a sulfate surfactant, trace residual unreacted原材料 and 1,4-dioxane from the ethoxylation process should be monitored per SCCS guidelines. The magnesium counterion also reduces the potential for skin protein denaturation that is observed with sodium salts. This substance is widely considered safe for use in rinse-off cosmetic products.
Skin benefits
- Mild sulfate surfactant suitable for body and facial cleansers
- Magnesium salt reduces irritation vs sodium salt counterparts
Known concerns
- Trace 1,4-dioxane from ethoxylation process
- Residual unreacted原材料 should be monitored
