About
Methyl 2-hydroxybenzoate is a cosmetic ingredient used in product formulations. Exercise caution due to limited available safety data.
Methyl 2-hydroxybenzoate (also known as methyl salicylate) is a naturally occurring ester with minty冬青-like scent, widely used in cosmetics as a flavoring and fragrance component. The EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC 1223/2009) restricts its maximum concentration in leave-on products to 0.6% and in rinse-off products to 0.06–2.52% depending on the category. It is classified as a skin sensitizer (H317) and is listed on the EU fragrance allergen list requiring mandatory declaration when present above 0.001% in leave-on products.
