Methylheptenone (CAS 409-02-9, typically 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one) is a methyl ketone occurring naturally in citrus oils, lemongrass, and other botanicals. Used in perfumery for green-citrus facets and as a terpene-chemistry intermediate. FEMA GRAS (2707) as a flavor. RIFM/IFRA evaluated; no notable toxicity at cosmetic levels. Pure material carries mild GHS skin/eye irritation labels but is benign at trace fragrance use.
