About
An endogenous nucleoside metabolite of methionine pathways — anti-inflammatory signalling, gentle on skin. Emerging but promising conditioner.
Methylthioadenosine (MTA, CAS 2457-80-9) is a naturally occurring sulfur-containing nucleoside, a key intermediate in polyamine biosynthesis. Published preclinical and early clinical work describes anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects via adenosine-receptor signalling. In cosmetics it functions as a skin-conditioning agent. No CIR monograph yet; no EU CosIng restriction. Because it is an endogenous metabolite, intrinsic toxicity is low; cosmetic dossiers are still emerging and supplier purity matters for stability.
