Methyprylon is a non-barbiturate sedative-hypnotic drug from the piperidinedione class, chemically related to glutethimide. It was used clinically for insomnia but has been withdrawn due to toxicity and abuse potential. EU Annex III of the Cosmetics Regulation restricts its use at ≥0.1% in cosmetic products. Toxicological profile includes H302 (harmful if swallowed), H315 (skin irritation), H317 (sensitization), H318 (serious eye damage), H335 (respiratory irritation), and H361 (suspected reproductive toxicity).
