About
An anionic surfactant used for cleansing that is restricted in EU cosmetic regulation Annex III, this ingredient may cause mild skin irritation in leave-on products at high concentrations.
MIPA-Dodecylbenzenesulfonate is an anionic surfactant salt formed from dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid neutralized with MIPA (morpholine). In the EU, dodecylbenzene sulfonates appear in Annex III with restriction reference III/61, limiting use in rinse-off products and requiring specific purity criteria for alkylbenzene sulfonate residues. The SCCS has evaluated this surfactant class and notes potential for skin irritation particularly in leave-on formulations at concentrations above 5%. Typical cosmetic use is in rinse-off cleansing products at 2-10% concentration.
