About
Myristoyl pullulan — a fatty-acid ester of the natural fungal polysaccharide pullulan. A film-forming modified biopolymer; pullulan itself is food-grade.
Myristoyl pullulan is a myristic-acid ester of pullulan, the alpha-1,4;1,6-glucan produced by Aureobasidium pullulans. Pullulan itself is food-grade (FDA GRAS, EU E1204) and widely used in oral pharmaceuticals; esterification with myristic acid lends lipophilicity for film-forming and emollient use in cosmetics. Biodegradability is favorable compared to synthetic film formers. Specific independent dermal toxicology for this ester is limited; CIR has not issued a monograph specifically on it.
