About
A fatty ester emollient — propionic acid esterified with myristyl alcohol. Gives products a light, dry-touch slip with a low irritation profile.
Myristyl propionate (CAS 6221-95-0) is the propionate ester of myristyl alcohol, a C14 fatty alcohol. It functions as a lightweight emollient and skin-conditioning agent, prized for a dry, non-greasy after-feel often used in lotions, sticks, and color cosmetics. Industry safety reviews of long-chain fatty acid esters consistently find low oral, dermal, and ocular toxicity, with no evidence of mutagenicity or sensitization at typical use concentrations. Like many myristate esters it can be mildly comedogenic on acne-prone skin. Not on the EU CosIng restricted list.
